Marketing support for 46 years.

In 1971, the te Neues printing company in Kempen (NRW) and the direct marketing company R. L. Polk from Detroit founded PORTICA GmbH direct marketing. At that time, it was usual for the various advertising materials to be delivered as finished products to the customer concerned. The client then had to take care of warehousing, order picking, shipping and reporting itself. The founding partners realised – with inspiration from similar activities in the USA, too – that there was potential in corresponding marketing support services. Our first customer was Adam Opel AG – and we are delighted that this customer has continued to use our services ever since.

Growing demands – a growing range.

In the following years, the number of customers grew – as did the range of their requirements. We had to adjust to that in terms of space, moving from warehouse and working premises of 3,000 square metres at first to 20,000 square metres today. The number of working processes and their complexity grew. As a result, control of those processes with appropriate IT programmes became more and more important. GEDAK GmbH has worked for us as an IT service provider for over 30 years. As its services are indispensable to us, we took over GEDAK as a 100% subsidiary in 2010. Today we work in three business areas. Having established Marketing Logistics as our first business area, we saw further potential in sales promotion services at the end of the 70s. At the end of the 80s, expansion in the direction of mail order service began. Today we refer to this as PORTICA E-commerce. Our first client was the Cologne-based WBI with its Camel shop. Services such as customer service, returns processing and debtor management became part of what we offer from that point on.

Nothing works without IT any more.

Over the last 10 years, capacity in all areas of data processing has taken giant leaps forward. We are exploiting this positive development. For example, we offer customer-specific reporting systems: we make all data and information that is important for controlling business available in real time. As another example, it is possible to take orders through complex webshops and to handle payment management and returns efficiently. We have developed our own products. To summarise: PORTICA has always positioned itself to be an attractive supplier to its customers – and it will continue to do so.
